Best Moments of 2013: Westjet Airlines surprises passengers with Santa gifts
Canadian Airline Westjet came up with a brilliant holiday promotion and found themselves in the headlines.
The airline used a digital Santa Clause at an airport to ask passengers what they wanted for Christmas and while the plane was in the air, the workers shopped at nearby stores and bought the gifts.
A video released by the airline captured the story and passengers’ reaction as the boxes arrive with their luggage. Everything from “socks and underwear” to a “big screen TV” the gifts were there to surprise each passenger.
Kids wanted Android tablets and Samsung Galaxy phones, adults asked for scarves, socks, and boxers. One woman wanted a flight home to see her family for the holidays; a couple said they needed a big TV.
“During the approximately five hours the 250 passengers were in the air, about 175 Westjet employees in Calgary rounded up every single thing Santa was asked for, from socks to a big screen TV. Everything was wrapped up and sent out the baggage claim in Calgary,” Fast Company reported.
Nineteen hidden cameras caught the priceless reactions of the passengers as they realized what was happening.
