Bernie Sanders soars in Iowa, New Hampshire

Vice President Joe Biden continues to rise in Democratic presidential polls without officially announcing a run against Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders is seeing a rise in new YouGov polls in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

“The new poll finds Sen. Sanders with 52% support among Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire, while former Secretary of State Clinton, long considered the front-runner for the 2016 Democratic nomination, receives 30%. Recent polls have shown Sanders’ lead growing in the Granite State, but this would be the first to show the Vermont Senator over 50%,” the YouGov analysis writes.

“Possibly more worrying for the Clinton campaign is her performance in Iowa, where Sanders now leads by 10 points, with 43% to Clinton’s 33%… Until recently Clinton had retained an edge in Iowa, the other first-in-the-nation voting state along with New Hampshire. A recent CNN/ORC poll found the pair tied among likely Iowa caucus voters.”

Clinton is ahead in South Carolina, the third state featured in the early state primary analysis.

In the Iowa primary, 15% of those polled claimed they will not participate and 18% claim to not know if they will vote for the Democrat or Republicans.

Martin O’Malley is fourth in the Iowa poll at 5%, trailing the “no preference” category which was 7%. Biden was the favorite as a “Second choice” in Iowa at 26% over Clinton and Sanders, both at 19% (18% stated they have no preference.)

Sanders has led in New Hampshire over the last month, but now the lead has grown to over 20% (52-30). Again, it’s Joe Biden who is the “second choice” for New Hampshire voters, Clinton is at 23%.

3/4 of Democrats report that the Clinton email scandal “has not mattered” in the decision/support of Clinton or the Democrats. (Iowa 74%, NH 76%).

“Biden’s best performance is in South Carolina, where he has the backing of 22% of Democratic primary voters, matching Sanders’ 23%. Yet Clinton remains firmly in the lead there with 46% support,” YouGov explains.
