Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘Frankenstein’ ‘Hamlet’ encore presentations arrive in theaters
From National Theatre Live to cinema screens across the U.S., come two critically-acclaimed theatre performances – “Frankenstein” on Tuesday, October 25 and “Hamlet” on Tuesday, November 15, both at 7:00 p.m.local time.
The thrilling production of the National Theatre’s “Frankenstein” is directed by Academy Award®-winner Danny Boyle(“Slumdog Millionaire,” “Steve Jobs”), and features Olivier Award-winning performances from Benedict Cumberbatch(BBC’s “Sherlock,” “The Imitation Game,” “Doctor Strange”) as the Creature and Jonny Lee Miller (CBS’s “Elementary,” “Trainspotting”) as Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
Cumberbatch also gives a remarkable performance in the National Theatre Live presentation of “Hamlet” as the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. Directed by Lyndsey Turner (“Posh,” “Chimerica”) and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions. The original 2015 broadcast was experienced by over half a million people worldwide.

“Dear’s adaptation gets dark and twisted around his own efforts to explore creation beyond the concept of God. A powerful speech by Naomie Harris (Elizabeth) summarizes the pride of Frankenstein, the role of God in creation…Cumberbatch steals the show, stumbling and mumbling before musing lines from Paradise Lost or pleading for a companion. Miller is adequate as the crazed doctor, as is the remaining cast, but is overshadowed in the story by a true villain – the Creature.

“…this was such an awesome version it should be released on DVD and aired in schools worldwide to educate students on the classic: Hamlet receives 5 out of 5 stars and is the best Hamlet performance I’ve ever seen.”
