Ben Affleck talks solo Batman film, writing the script says agent
Ben Affeck’s Bruce Wayne and Caped Crusader was one of the highlights of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman film and the Argo director has said he would love the chance to direct a Batman movie himself.
When asked by Simon Mayo on Kermode and Mayo’s Film Review if he’d like to follow in Zack and Christopher Nolan’s footsteps, Ben said he would “if the script was good” and he’d “be all on board” if that script was written by Chris Terrio.
Terrio not only wrote the Batman V Superman script and is signed on to do Justice League too, but won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Argo in which Affleck starred and directed.
All of that said, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s interview with Patrick Whitesell, Affleck may be writing the script himself.
The co-CEO of WME-IMG (who represent Ben) said: “There’s a script that he’s written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that’s out there as an option.”
Affleck has an impressive resume as a writer with The Town and Gone Baby Gone being praised by fans and critics and never forgetting that he and Matt Damon won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting.
According to BvS director Zack Snyder talking with Joe.ie: “I keep working on him, he’s always said he’s a one movie at a time guy. He’s finishing editing his film, Live By Night and then he comes to Justice League and then after that, I think he’s going to try and develop the story. Then we’ll see if he likes it.”
When asked whether Affleck will also direct in addition to starring and writing the script, Snyder confirmed that’s the idea everyone has in mind. “Oh yeah, for sure. I think he would. I think that’s kind of the prerequisite, hopefully, for him doing [the film].”
“If I could make it work, yeah, Obviously that would be like a dream,” Affleck said, responding to questions about last year’s Comic-Con report and rumors. “The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you – if you’re going to direct it – that you can make it good. You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it… Broadly speaking, it’s something I’d be open to, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.”
Based on the schedule, that means a solo Batman film could land in 2019.
