‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ star Quvenzhané Wallis will join Minions from ‘Despicable Me 2’ for Fat Tuesday parade

Stars from the Oscar nominated “Beasts of the Southern Wild” will serve as Grand Marshals with Minions from “Despicable Me” in the Fat Tuesday parade in February, said the Krewe of Argus on Saturday.

Quvenzhane Wallis and Dwight Henry will ride along the Metairie parade route on Feb. 12, along with Lowell Landes and Jovan Hathaway, who also were in the acclaimed movie, which was filmed in Louisiana.

“Beasts” has received four Oscar nominations – for Best Picture, Best Actress (Wallis), Best Director (Benh Zeitlin) and Best Adapted Screenplay. Wallis is the youngest performer ever to be nominated in her category.

Also riding as grand marshals on a separate float will be “minions” from the upcoming animated film “Despicable Me 2,” the sequel to the 2010 movie.  The new film is set to be released in July, featuring the voice talents of Steve Carell, Al Pacino, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig.

Krewe of Argus describe Mardi Gras Day “along the Metairie parade route has a strong family picnic atmosphere as the public eagerly awaits the parade. For many locals, Mardi Gras ranks as the favorite family holiday of the year with early memories of stretching for beads and stooping for doubloons while surrounded by friends and family, the sights and sounds indellibly etched into our memories.”

“This is an exciting time for Hollywood South and Argus is honored to celebrate the local talent from the cast of Beasts and their award winning performances, by having them ride with us Mardi Gras Day”, said Rob DeViney, co-captain of the Krewe of Argus.  “To have the Minions from “Despicable Me 2″ will add just as much excitement to the day,” said DeViney, “If they behave.”

Argus was founded in 1972 and parades Mardi Gras day in Jefferson Parish on the traditional Veterans Blvd. route.
