BBC subtitle D’oh: ‘Year of the Whores’

January 31, 2014 was the start of the “Year of the Horse” on the  Chinese calendar.

However, in a Homer Simpson moment at the BBC, their subtitle system didn’t quite read it that way, as the UK paper, The Independent points out.

During their Chinese New Year coverage, the media giant’s subtitle system translated “Year of the Horse” to “Year of the Whores”.

Specifically, “Welcome to the year of the whores. People around the globe celebrate,” read the subtitles.
