‘Bates Motel’ season 4 teaser pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock, Norman’s future
The Psyhco prequel, Bates Motel, continues to roll along and A&E’s hit show just got a new teaser for their fourth season.
Still centering on Norma (Vera Farmiga) and Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and leading up to the formation of the psychopath made famous by Alfred Hitchcock, season four will also include the fallout of a war between two small-time drug lords and promises more of Emma (Olivia Cooke).
At only thirty seconds, the iconic shot, an direct homage to Psycho, will certainly please fans.
A&E has renewed Bates Motel for its fourth and fifth season, likely ending the series.
Viewership dropped last season and co-creators Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse have always envisioned the show ending around its fifth season. Here’s what Cuse had to say: “Yes, [it will be] five seasons. Kerry and I have a pretty clear roadmap. We have a pretty clear plan of where we want to go and we want to bring this story to its inevitable conclusion. I think Bates is not its best version if it’s an open-ended series.”
Farmiga and Highmore have both received Critics Choice TV Awards nominations, for their performance, starring alongside Max Thieriot, Cooke and Nestor Carbonell.
“We saw Norman’s (Freddie Highmore) descent already clearly happening especially through the second half of last season so we’ll see more of that to come, no doubt about it,” Carbonell teased of season 4.
“For the first three seasons of the show, we have watched in a slow, progressive way his development of becoming the guy he is going to become. When the show started, for [executive producer] Kerry [Ehrin] and I, he was just a kid. He was a kid who had blackouts and some issues and stuff,” Cuse said (via Calgary Herald) at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada.
“But at the end of the third season of the show, he really becomes unhinged in a different way he had before. That really sets up a different version of the Norman that we know from the movie.”
During season 4, Norman’s progression to becoming that character in the film is going to be “very exciting,” said Cuse.
Bates Motel season four premieres on March 7th at 9/8c.
