Author and Biblical Scholar Dr Mark Strauss discusses The Gospels, Jesus Christ and history
Dr Mark Strauss discusses the New Testament, the Gospels and his book Four Portraits, One Jesus.
Strauss begins by explaining the four different authors of the Gospels and their perspective. The Gospels were written for different purposes, with different perspectives for different audiences.
Strauss worked on the committee for translating the New International Version of the Bible and has authored several books.
Jesus’ genealogy, deeper meaning in the language of the scripture and discrepancies in the Bible are discussed as well.
“There is a huge debate,” Strauss explains discussing why the Gospel of John includes so many miracles not mentioned elsewhere in scripture.
“…is John’s Gospel dependent on the Synoptics, and knows Matthew, Mark and Luke and adds to them or whether he’s writing entirely independent of them. It’s a tough call…”
Strauss doesn’t shy away from explaining the different arguments for-and-against sides of the discussions.
Adding historical context and a great knowledge of the language, Strauss is extraordinary to hear discuss scripture.
