Australia tech festival, Pause Fest, is microchipping guests in place of tickets

As the fear of microchips for humans continues to decrease, a technology and culture festival held in Melbourne, Australia is paving the way with a new twist: a rice sized chips in the hands can be implanted instead of getting a ticket.

Pause Fest offered 10 VIP tickets for volunteers to get Near Field Communication (NFC) chips implanted into their hands.

The Herald Sun touts the move in their article titled “Pause Fest: Microchip inserted into wrist could be security pass of the future.”

Melbourne University PHD candidate Kayla Heffernan, who has studied insertable devices for non-medical purposes, said the concept had huge potential.

“They can be used for access to homes and workplaces if you have a swipe system,” she said.

“Some people have gone as far as modifying their cars or their motorbikes to unlock their vehicles.

“They can also be used for authentication for phones or the computer and to store small amounts of information.”

“People are fearful based on science fiction, they think chips can be used to track you and that the government is going to force us to get them, but that is just not possible, it’s not how they work,” Heffernan.

Science fiction or…the Bible.

This summer Pastor Dave Doyle from Hope Christian Fellowship Church in Iowa made headlines when he explained that the microchips make him think about the “mark of the Beast” from Revelation 13:16.

“I take microchipping as a form of the mark. There’s many pieces of the mark, and then again, all these pieces of the mark is designed to control,” he said.

The verse, discussing the powers of the Antichrist (from Chapter 13): “…he deceives those[e] who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. 15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
