‘Attack the Block’ director Joe Cornish may top candidate list to helm ‘Star Trek 3’
While JJ Abrams moves on away from the Star Trek franchise to tackle Star Wars, Paramount is left with big shoes to fill.
Deadline reports that Paramount is pursuing Attack The Block director Joe Cornish for a third film.
“I’m hearing the studio is sweet on Joe Cornish to direct the next film. Cornish made his feature directorial debut on Attack The Block, the saga of a group of British youths who stave off an alien invasion in their rough neighborhood,” Deadline states.
Cornish has co-written Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man film with director Edgar Wright after writing the Adventures of Tin Tin film.
“Long story short, he’s gotten exposure to bigger scale projects than Attack The Block, in which he admirably depicted a full scale alien invasion on a relatively small budget. Doing a movie like this would certainly put his career on a warp speed path,” they added.
Cornish is already working with Paramount on an adaptation of the novel Snow Crash.
Star Trek Into Darkness grossed almost $230 million at the US box office and over $465 million worldwide, so a sequel is nearly 100% certaion.
