Ashley Zukerman talks ‘Manhattan,’ playing Charlie, learning physics and the script
The new show from WGN, Manhattan, is set for a Sunday premiere and the show offers a ton of interesting characters, plots, secrets, sex and science. Star Ashley Zukerman took out time to talk with The Global Dispatch’s Dispatch Radio about the show ahead of the premiere.
UPDATE: Note that Manhattan airs at 9pm ET, not at 10pm as discussed in the interview.
Zukerman talks about his character, Charlie, and the new hot shot scientist joining the Manhattan Project team. Ashley talks about the metaphors of secrecy, how his character doesn’t quite know what he’s signed on for and how he struggles emotional.
Manhattan was picked up for a full season and the first two episodes serve as a “two hour premiere” according to creator Sam Shaw.
Zukerman talks about the enjoyment of having such a strong character based approach to a whole season of storytelling. He confesses that he’s spent some time trying to learn the physics, but the full story is truly interesting.
Ashley couldn’t offer enough praise for the script, the cast and the incredible experience bringing the first season to life. One interesting aspect of the interview is Ashley and Brandon discussing the themes of the show contrasting this with the “glorifying” nature of espionage in Hollywood over of the years.
Manhattan brings to life the sacrifice of the scientists and their families working in the race to the atomic bomb.
