Ashley Arpel talks Nicolas Cage, ‘Runner’ ‘Unconventionally LA’
Film and television actress Ashley Arpel talked with Dispatch Radio about her career while promoting Unconventionally L.A., including her work alongside Nicolas Cage in The Runner.
“It’s about a girl brand new to Los Angeles,” Ashley says of Unconventionally L.A. She plays the “ditsy classmate,” “a lovestruck model” with Melissa Cantore, Andrea Latorre, Tiffany Chang, Alison Headrick and Diana Hsu-Citron.
Ashley talked about the comedy, which was filmed all over Los Angeles: “It’s amazing. It’s fantastic. Not just the weather, I’ve had an amazing time here…”
“I think I was born to be in L.A.”
Shifting gears to The Runner, which was filmed in New Orleans with Nic Cage starring, Ashley begins by recounting the casting process by “sending in a tape” and the long process of getting the opportunity. “You gotta hustle,” she says.
The Runner is political drama written and directed by Austin Stark and Ashley recounts the experience on set and working with Cage and Wendell Pierce for her scene.
“It was amazing…one of the best sets I’ve ever been on,” she said.
“I was petrified….you could notice how much I was shaking,” Ashley later confessed while discussing the initial nerves of working with Nicolas Cage. “He’s more than gracious…It was lovely working with him.”
Ashley reflects on performance and getting into acting after starting as a dancer at age six. She grew up in Manhattan, attending The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and her family’s influence.
On goals, Ashley admits that she’d love to do a slasher film and have a role on a sitcom – listen and she’ll tell you why.
