‘Arrow’ season 4 tease: Constantine/Arrow crossover, Matt Ryan is ‘natural’

Even though Constantine was cancelled by NBC, the Arrow showrunners and star Stephen Amell are partnering with the show’s star, Matt Ryan, who would reprise the role of John Constantine for an upcoming episode of The CW DC Comics series. The “resurrection” of Sara Lance to become the White Canary, revealed to be a part of Legends of Tomorrow, appears to be the storyline uniting the two characters.

Superhero Hype recently caught up with Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim and the topic of Constantine’s appearance was discussed and how Caity Lotz’s character will be brought back.

“When you see him in the show, honestly it feels like we’re doing a Constantine/Arrow crossover, and it’s so exciting… We’re just really glad we got the chance to extend Matt Ryan’s run as Constantine by at least one more hour of television. I think you’ll see he fits very neatly into our universe. It never feels forced, it feels right. Stephen’s on-screen vibe with Matt is just very natural, it’s as if these guys had been working together forever. I think people are really going to love the episode.”

In fact, Guggenheim sounds even more excited as the talk continued.

“John Badham (War Games, Saturday Night Fever) directed it and it was just a happy circumstance, but John had also directed an episode of Constantine. It all works, and it works really effortlessly. It worked effortlessly with a lot of effort, I should say. I can’t wait for people to see that episode. If you thought it was a thrill just to see that one shot of Matt in the trailer, wait til you see a whole episode with him.”

Expanding on the supernatural, Ryan’s role in season 4 will indeed focus heavily on “magic and mysticism“, a theme that is what Constantine is about.

Fans of the NBC show were disappointed to see Constantine not get a second season, so expect a big turn out for Arrow to see Ryan’s return.

The fourth season of Arrow begins on October 7, 2015.

Official synopsis of the premiere – titled “Green Arrow”

MY NAME IS THE GREEN ARROW — Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) blissful getaway is cut short when Thea (Willa Holland) and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) pay them a visit and tell Oliver they need his help back in Star City. The city has been attacked by “Ghosts,” assassins led by a dangerous man named Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough). However, when Oliver returns, Diggle (David Ramsey) makes it very clear that he doesn’t want Oliver on the team. Thor Freudenthal directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Beth Schwartz and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Wendy Mericle (#401).
