Police have arrested the suspect linked to the shooting of two Dallas police officers, critically wounded them in an incident outside of a Home Depot. After a brief manhunt, Armando Luis Juárez, 29, was arrested and will be charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault to a police officer, Chief Reneé Hall told the press.

“Mr. Armando Juarez was arrested,” said Hall. “He is facing multiple counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. He had an outstanding warrant for felony theft as well. Going forward, we will make sure this individual is questioned and taken to Lew Sterrit jail for processing.”

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday outside a Home Depot in northern Dallas.

The wounded officers were identified as Crystal Almeida and Rogelio Santander, both three-year veterans assigned to the Northeast Division. Michael Mata, President of the Dallas Police Association, initially said Santander is “holding in there.”
“We’ve talked with the doctors and the prognosis is not real positive,” Mata said regarding Santander’s condition. He added that Almeida is “doing better than they suspected, but she is holding on.”

“I don’t want to say she is stable, but she is, I think, out of the darkest part,” Mata said.

Officer Santander was shot in the back of the head and Officer Almeida was shot in the face.

At the time of his arrest Juarez had an outstanding warrant for Felony Theft. He is now also charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and remains on jail on a $1.1 million bond.
