Arkansas man, Abraham Garcia, arrested for ‘recording women’ in bathroom

The Greenwood Police Department arrested an Arkansas man Sunday on suspicion of recording women in a restaurant bathroom. Abraham Garcia was arrested after police responded to the El Palenque restaurant after a hidden phone recording women in the bathroom was found by a 10-year-old girl.

Garcia, 30, was a worker at the restaurant, arrested on suspicion of video voyeurism after he was interviewed about the incident by police.

“He indicated that it was a first time thing, so the investigation is ongoing as to if there were any prior incidents,” Captain Richie Wolford said.

Garcia is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond.

Wolford said that a 10-year-old girl went to use the restroom and noticed the hidden cellphone. The girl told her grandmother, who then called police.

“The grandmother went into the bathroom and noticed that the cellphone was still recording,” said Wolford.

“You go into a bathroom, you expect you’re going to have all the privacy,” said Wolford. “You don’t think about there being a video recording device in the bathroom.”

Police revealed there was over two hours of footage on the cell phone and are reviewing the phone for additional videos.

The investigation is ongoing, but police believe there could be more victims. They are encouraging customers who were at the restaurant Sunday and used the women’s bathroom to contact the police department at (479) 996-4119.

If convicted of video voyeurism, Garcia could have to register as a sex offender.

Garcia will appear before a judge for a bond hearing at the Greenwood Courthouse at 12:30 p.m. June 13.

Bathroom privacy has been an issue with the transgender and gender fluid laws opening the doors to men entering the ladies’ restrooms without penalty. In fact, Massachusetts even rejected language to a law preventing sex offenders and convicted pedophiles from such access. More on that HERE
