Many of the ladies wore very elaborate and flamboyant costumes, certainly to catch the eyes and imaginations of those watching.
Miss Universe Philippines 2013, Ariella Arida, was beautiful and stunning in her classic filipiniana dress; however, it was much simpler than many of the other contestants.
Ariella was wearing a dirty white Filipiniana gown embroidered with silver sequences on the upper half. On her head was a simple head dress.
The public reaction on her National Costume was a mixed bag. On her official Facebook page, fans wrote the following comments:
“mas maganda pa ang costume ng mga super sireyna”
“I dont like her national costume here.. Seems like its not hers… Too big… Theres alot of designs better than this i guess… Sana binonggahan nmn.. Prang pang costume lng sa mga sayaw eee…. Ang dmi nmang filipino designers na world class tlga e.. Sayang”
“Ariella will stand but the national costume who designed it its sucks”
“There’s no question on how Ara carried the costume. She knows how to work the work. She was really elegant on stage and she was just enjoying the moment. However, she deserves a better looking costume after all her hard work. Yes, national costume has no bearing in the competition but remember, Ara is representing our country to the world. She, in that costume, is a symbol if national pride. She could have worn a costume that Filipinos could be proud of. Like come on, we may not be pageant experts but we are not blind!”
“My support goes to ara and not the costume.”
