Archie Comics to feature gay kiss, so Salon asks Disney for a ‘gay character’ to make more money
An upcoming issue of Archie Comics will feature a kiss between two openly gay characters, Kevin and his boyfriend Devon, so the obvious question for some is to ask: When is Disney getting an openly gay character?
Salon published Renee Davidson’s piece “Why are there no gay Disney characters?” which warns that Disney needs to start pushing LGBT imagery or Mickey Mouse and company run the risk of going out of date.
If fact, the article notes over and over again how Disney should cash in on homosexuality to increase revenue.
Sadly the advice doesn’t hold water.
Since the falloff from 2007 was so massive, the gimmick of homosexuality has only saved the Archie Comics, not restored it to the financial numbers it saw years ago. (see the graph below)
“If money is what Disney is after,” Davidson asserted, “the profits of Archie Comics’ foray into queer representations should have its execs seeing dollar signs.”
The fact that Disney’s target audience is children doesn’t make a difference to Davidson. Disney stories are “steeped in sexuality – heterosexuality,” she complains.
Archie Comics didn’t sell out with an openly gay character, that wasn’t enough.
Then it was the gay marriage ceremony and now the kiss. Will we see Kevin and Devon under the sheets at some point?
It’s shocking to believe homosexuals are so happy being exploited in this manner.
Return to the graph below and notice only Archie has held a strong upswing from the fall of 2008-2009.
Now notice how flat, and slightly lower the figures from 2012 are compared to 2011…success?
“If Archie continued on in a bubble of nostalgia, [the series would] run the risk of becoming an anachronism,” said Goldwater — Davidson quotes Archie CEO Jon Goldwater in March 2012.
Revenue has declined since then, so what do you think Disney is planning?
(As I was posting this — Is Kevin Keller is divorced already? He married his black physical therapist Clay Walker and now he’s kissing Devon?!?!?)

AMERICA, YOU CAN NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT WANTING A gay Disney-character AND SIMULTANEOUSLY RIDICULE HOMOSEXUALITY IN Boy Scouts. SOME LIBERALS ALSO OPPOSE HOMOSEXUALITY.
