AR-15 auctioned at fundraiser in Texas, gun control advocates irrate
Last Friday during the Tarrant County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner in Texas a custom version of the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle was auctioned for $7,500. The fundraising and the rifle are now making the headline was as gun control advocates take the offense.
The Dallas News letter to the editor was titled:
AR-15 as an auction item? What a tone-deaf Republican Party fundraiser
One of the activities at the event was the auction of an AR-15 assault rifle — the type of weapon just used to slaughter 20 little children and six women at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and also in other spectacularly deadly shootings…
The event made some initial press because Rick Santorum was onhand and bid $7,000 for the rifle before some fun ribbing by the fundraising promoting pushed for another bid.
This weapon has come to symbolize the terrible tolerance for violence that has griped this country…One of my friends observed that these people can’t tell right from wrong any more. I agree.
