Antwann Brown identified as man who stabbed five people at Florida’s Dyke Industries

Tallahassee Police have identified Antwann D. Brown, a current employee at Dyke Industries who responded to an unknown dispute in the office and used a “pocket-knife style weapon” to attack and injured five people, one in “serious condition.”

Tallahassee police spokesman Damon Miller stated that “At approximately 8:37 am, TPD responded to a stabbing near the 2000 block of Maryland Circle,” adding that “Upon officer’s arrival, they discovered multiple stabbing victims and provided immediate medical attention.”

“It is a very big scene right now,” Miller said. “We’re trying to figure out why this happened and what caused this person to do this.”

Spokeswoman Rachelle Denmark said she did not have information about a motive for the stabbing during a short press conference today with the media.

Denmark did clarify that Brown is not on of the individuals being treated at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

“They are currently being evaluated by our medical team,” the hospital said in a statement to the media.

“[TMH] received five patients from the incident, not six as initially reported. One patient is in serious condition, two patients are in fair condition, and two patients are in good condition,” clarified Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare spokeswoman Danielle Buchanan.

Interim Chief Outlaw says some employees performed a “heroic act” when the stabbing took place and managed to subdue Brown before he could hurt anymore people.

Police say they will be working to collect surveillance video from both Dyke Industries and the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant nearby. They’re looking to interview dozens of employees who were there when this happened.

According to the company’s website, Dyke Industries manufactures doors and is “the largest online retailer of wood, steel and fiberglass exterior, interior, storm and patio doors and door products in the US today.”

Brown had been working at Dyke for just over three months.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

The FBI office in Jacksonville sent out the following statement about the stabbing rampage:

“The Tallahassee Police Department remains the lead law enforcement agency for this incident. FBI Jacksonville is in contact with investigators and we stand ready to provide any resources needed at their request. FBI Jacksonville has no additional information to provide at this time.”

This case has been assigned to investigators with TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
