Another horrible piece of legislation from John McCain
We all remember McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy, now Senator McCain with his fellow neocon Joe Lieberman have introduced “The Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010”. This fine piece of legislation would allow the U.S. military to detain U.S. citizens without trial indefinitely in the U.S. based on suspected activity.
Their is no difference between US citizens and non-US citizens and to hell with Miranda warning.
You are considered a “belligerent” if you meet one of the following criterion:
1) poses a threat of an attack on civilians or civilian facilities within the U.S. or U.S. facilities abroad
2) poses a threat to U.S. military personnel or U.S. military facilities
3) potential intelligence value
4) is a member of al Qaeda or a terrorist group affiliated with al Qaeda
5) such other matters as the President considers appropriate.
Be of “potential intelligence value?” “Other matters the President considers appropriate?” That should scare the hell out of you.
That could be me or you. We could be kidnapped by the government and interrogated by voicing a dissenting opinion. Bye-Bye Bill of Rights!
Why does John McCain and Joe Lieberman ( and as a side note Massachusetts Republican Senator Scott Brown is one of the co-sponsors. Hate to say it but I told you so.)and the several cosponsors have such disregard for the Bill of Rights and personal liberty and freedoms?
Knowing these two characters, it has to be linked to the “war on terror”. That vague reference seems to scare more and more people into giving up their liberties for some presumed safety. Didn’t Ben Franklin once talk about this?
If you find this kind of legislation abhorrent and reprehensible, call your Senator and Representative and tell them to vote no on this bill.
