Anonymous Philippines strikes again: President Aquino’s website defaced

The official website of President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines was the latest victim by the group, “Anonymous Philippines”, as the group hacked into the president’s website and defaced the site’s Latest News section Thursday, according to a ABS-CBN report today.

Anonymous Philippines hacked directly into the website Thursday morning despite the high security measure taken by the government. It is reported that  the site uses CloudFlare anti-DDoS software among other software.

The hacking was a protest against the Aquino administration’s handling of  the crisis in Sabah.

Specifically, the message said:

“Greetings, President Aquino! We have watched how you signed into law a bill that endangers and tramples upon the netizens’ freedom of speech and expression. Now, we are silent witnesses as to how you are mishandling the Sabah issue. We did not engage the Malaysian hackers who invaded our cyberspace since we expected you to appropriately and judiciously act on the same, but you failed us.

“You did nothing while our fellow brothers are being butchered by the Malaysian forces, and while our women and children become subject of human rights abuses. If you can’t act on the issue as the Philippine President, at least do something as a fellow Filipino. We are watching.”

Malacañang confirmed the attack at around 9:40 am, Thursday.
“At around 1:30 a.m. today, we detected a breach when an errant sentence critical of the government on the Sabah issue was found to have been inserted in one of the news items within the website,” Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said in a statement.
In the past,  “Anonymous Philippines” attacked the websites of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Health Anti-Smoking, the University of the Philippines’Institute for Development and Econometric Analysis,Philippines’ Anti-Piracy Team (PAPT), the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Region 3 and the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, to name a few.
The website, 1.president.gov.ph was again up and running at 10 am.
