Ann-Laure Decadt identified as Belgian mother killed in Manhattan terrorist attack

The Belgian mother listed among the victims of the terror attack in Manhattan yesterday has now been identified as Ann-Laure Decadt, a 31-year-old mother of two.

The woman was riding bicycles with her mom and two sisters along the West Side of Lower Manhattan when she was struck by Sayfullo Saipov, the Uzbek immigrant turned Islamic State terrorist who police now say “had been planning [the attack] for a number of weeks”

Ann-Laure Decadt’s family members escaped the attack unharmed, but Decadt was rushed to the hospital where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. They said they were “surprised by the danger that came from behind.”

Decadt’s husband, Alexander Naessens, said he learned about his wife’s death after receiving a call from New York Presbyterian Hospital officials.

“She was a wonderful wife and the most beautiful mom of our 3-month- and 3-year-old sons,” Naessens told HLN. “This loss is unbearable and can not be overcome.”

Decadt was planning on leaving the U.S. Friday after arriving with her mother and two sisters in New York last weekend, family spokesman Francesco Vanderjeugd, the mayor of Staden, Belgium, told the NY Daily News.

“This is a shock in our city, it is a small community of only about 11,000 people,” the mayor said

The Argentine government identified the five of the victims as Hernán Mendoza, Diego Angelini, Alejandro Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernan Ferruchi. More here. The men has gathered for their 30-year school reunion.

A spokesperson for Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina told The Post that two staff members and two students were among those who were wounded. They had been on the school bus, which was struck by Saipov.
