Angelica Spanidis charged with murder of baby, which cannot be found in Toronto as search expands to BC
A 25-year-old Toronto woman has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing her newborn baby.
Staff at a local hospital contacted police on May 23 when Angelica Spanidis came in after giving birth, but did not have a baby with her.
Police conducted an initial investigation and transferred the case over to homicide. Spanidis was arrested the following day after investigators found evidence relating to the death of her child.
She told staff at an Ontario hospital on May 23 that she had given birth, but did not know where her baby was.
Police weren’t able to confirm when or where the baby was born. They are alleging the mother killed it after giving birth. The baby has not been found.
Spanidis appeared in court Monday morning.
Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Jennifer Pound confirms officers were searching rail tracks through the Vancouver suburb after receiving information that the body of the baby may be on one of the cars of a train.
Pound said earlier that nothing had been found.
