Andy Capp’s Hot Fries recalled due to undeclared soy
Omaha, NE company, ConAgra Foods, along with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a voluntary recall of a limited number of packages (756 cases) of its Andy Capp’s Hot Fries flavor product due to the possibility that packages could contain Andy Capp’s Cheddar Fries flavor, which contains soy and thus an undeclared allergen, according to an FDA press release Jan. 4.
The affected product, Andy Capp’s Hot Fries, is packaged in .85-ounce blue poly bags with an Andy Capp’s graphic logo and picture of the hot fries product on the front panel. This voluntary recall is limited only to packages of Andy Capp’s Hot Fries bearing the following UPC and Sell By date: Case UPC: 20-0-26200-47169-7, Unit UPC: 00-0-26200-47168-6, Batch Code: 5381232500 and Sell By date: August 17, 2013.
The product was shipped to retail food distributors in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for distribution to retail stores in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
According to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, Symptoms of soy allergy are typically mild, although anaphylaxis is possible. Soybean allergy is one of the more common food allergies, especially among babies and children.
There have been no illnesses reported to date in connection with this product.
