‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ star Shailene Woodley set to star as Hazel Grace in ‘The Fault In Our Stars’

Shailene Woodley is reportedly close to a deal to star as Hazel Grace Lancaster in Fox 2000‘s The Fault In Our Stars

Deadline confirmed in a March 19 article that the star of The Descendants and The Spectacular Now will play the lead in the adaptation of the John Green bestselling novel.

The film will be directed by Josh Boone and the script was written by (500) Days Of Summer and The Spectacular Now screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber. Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing.

“I am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars,” John Green says to EW. “It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie–and very exciting.”

This is the story of romance between Gus and Hazel, who meet in their cancer support group and fall head over heels in love. Rather than dwelling on the depressing nature of the limited time they have together, the two embark on a vibrant, passionate, and hilarious journey that proves that an entire life’s worth of meaning can be found in any stretch of time.

Said Boone: “During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses. Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.”
