Allen Leech and Laura Carmichael give ‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 updates, what’s next
While attending the opening for a new production of “Macbeth” in London last week, both actors spoke to Red Carpet News about the play in which they were attending, but offered brief updates on the next season of “Downton Abbey,” which will be headed into season 4.
Leech confirmed the production is three weeks into the new season.
“It’s great to be back…It’s just such a great atmosphere and I’m delighted to be back. The scripts are rocking…It’s very exciting.”
Leech added that Mary is going to be the center point for many of the stories as she looks to get over what happened with Matthew and restart her life. Leech also adds that there is some exciting stuff coming up around the middle of the season for his own notable character of Tom Branson.
“She’s trying to get over the death of her husband and that’s a very central arc to it… and ‘Downton’ is in a period of change, like it always is.”
As for Carmichael, she also promised that there are some exciting things coming up for Edith, who was faced with an interesting dilemma at the end of the season as to whether or not she should follow her heart, or the best wishes of the family and those close to her.
“The house is just dealing with the news that Matthew died…It’s a really interesting change for her and carries on…fascinating I hope.”
