‘Allegiant’ trailer highlights action, staying faithful to the book

Tthe first teaser trailer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant showcased a lot of action, fueled the fan frenzy from readers of the novel and still promised to follow the book.

At the end of the Insurgent novel, a video created by the founders of the city was revealed to the public that the Faction system was an experiment and that all the citizens must venture out into the world beyond the wall. When the third book, Allegiant, opens, the Factionless have overthrown the Faction System, but a rising group, the Allegiant, wants to return to that original Faction system that once separated Chicago, and to go outside the wall, fulfilling the city’s original purpose.

Evelyn Johnson, the leader of the Factionless, wants to keep everyone inside, closing the gates to prevent anyone from leaving the city. The Allegiant plan for Tris, Four and their friends is to go outside to find the Founders. But when they escape into the world beyond, new truths are revealed that shatter everything they once knew about the city and true Divergence.

Then, Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four, Christina (Zoe Kravitz), Caleb (Ansel Elgort) and Peter (Miles Teller) are shown climbing the wall and overlooking the world beyond it, parallel to what actually happened in the book.

As the trailer progresses, there are scenes of children running from soldiers that are a part of the “Bureau of Genetic Welfare,” which is the new form of government in the nuclear-war destroyed United States. This alludes to the fact that the movie may be focusing more on issues of “the Fringe,” a city outside the wall that is filled with ‘genetically damaged’ children and parents. The scene in the Fringe was originally a few chapters in the book and not as complex as the reveals.

Theo James, who plays the character “Four” in the movies, said in an interview with Collider that the “key elements of the book” will be in the movie and that it will be “pretty similar.”

“We have time to tell the book over two movies, so I think if anything, it will be the material in the book, but then added as well. There will be more stuff because we have more time to tell the story,” he said.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant was split into two movies, titled “Allegiant Part 1” and “Allegiant Part 2” but Lionsgate decided to rename the second film to The Divergent Series: Ascendant.

The film also stars Jeff Daniels, Bill Skarsgard, Naomi Watts, Maggie Q, Jonny Weston and Nadia Hilker.

Allegiant hits theaters on March 18, 2016.
