‘Alien Covenant’ trailer, red band trailer: Xenomorph revealed, tons more footage
As Logan arrived in theaters, fans got a great new look at Alien: Covenant, the Prometheus sequel and Alien prequel by director Ridley Scott.
Scott expands the universe with a new crew returning to deep space only to be exposed to the acid spewing creatures made famous in the Alien franchise.
Michael Fassbeder returns as David, but more importantly, another android named Walter. Walter is a new model android, part of the Covenant crew and is seen several times in the teasers and promotional footage.
“I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish,” Fassbender said of the new character. “David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”
Scott sets Alien: Covenant ten years after the events of Prometheus and follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, which has discovered a promising new planet.
When they land, they run into the new Xenomorph, called the “Neomorph,” and typical Alien chaos ensues.
Scott says this film will provide some answers. “Covenant is really going to show you who did it and why.”
“This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus….” Fassbender said of the new film.
“It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.”
Alien: Covenant stars Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby.
Alien: Covenant will arrive in theaters on May 19, 2017.
