Alicia Vikander talks ‘Bourne 5’ action, scope and meeting Matt Damon
After breakout roles in Ex Machina and (Oscar-nominated) The Danish Girl Alicia Vikander will star opposite Matt Damon in the next Jason Bourne film, just nicknamed Bourne 5 for now.
Vikander spoke to The Wrap about what the new Bourne will entail, discussing the action and the star.
“I’m not doing the conventional action but I’m very action-driven in this film. But it’s not in the way most people would think. … “I came from Sweden where it’s like 30, 40 people, and here on The Danish Girl, doing a British film, it’s 100, and then you end up on these sets, and I know on Monday or Tuesday we’re going to have 1,600 extras just in one scene.”
On meeting Matt Damon: “I hadn’t met Matt, I was just the biggest fan. He’s very funny on set and then he’s just extremely cool as Bourne, but we all know that.”
While few details have been confirmed, the new film will “financial collapse, the great recession” according to Damon.
Paul Greengrass also returns to direct the film.
“We find [Bourne] in a dark and tortured place” is the only clue he’d give to the character. The story so far has been kept largely under wraps, though Alicia Vikander’s role as a cyberspecialist and Damon’s earlier hint means they’ll probably be taking a very different look at terrorism this time around.
Tommy Lee Jones joins the action as an “old school CIA agent” and Julia Stiles reprises her role as Nicky from the previous Bourne films.
Damon previously talked about the action, filming in different cities all over the globe as the action resume 12 years after his last Bourne film.
“We were in Tenerife, which is supposed to be Athens. It would be like a nighttime riot scene to kind of start the movie. And then England, Berlin a little bit for about a week, and a little bit in D.C. Then we’re going to Vegas for the third act… Big car chase on the strip.”
Vincent Cassel and Ato Essandoh also have been cast in roles.
The Untitled Bourne Movie arrives in theaters July 29, 2016.
