Alec Baldwin to play CIA Director in ‘Mission Impossible 5’ with more casting news
The casting news is finally moving ahead for another Tom Cruise led Mission Impossible adventure. This time Alec Baldwin, Jessica Chastain and Rebecca Ferguson are the names coming on going as part of the next spy thriller.
Deadline says in their July 9 article that Baldwin is being sought to play the role of the head of the CIA, although no deal has been struck as yet. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain has reportedly turned down the opportunity to take the female lead, with the studio now turning to Rebecca Ferguson.
Ferguson stars on The White Queen and is thought to be top of the list to replace her in the role, which will be to play some sort of assassin.
MI5 will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie and Bourne Legacy star Jeremy Renner will be back with filming confirmed for London.
“I’m working on the next mission soon and we’re shooting it here in London…We haven’t come up with the title yet” Renner said last month. “Hopefully I’ll come up with a good one before the movie is finished.”
McQuarrie directed Cruise in the successful Jack Reacher film. Co-star Simon Pegg is also expected to retrun as Benji with Ving Rhames and Paula Patton rumored to be included in the next adventure.
The Untitled Mission Impossible film is set to arrive in theaters Christmas Day 2015.
This release date may change as the Paramount film is set to square off against Kung Fu Panda 3 and arrive just one week after Star Wars Episode VII.
Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce was already brought in to write the film and Cruise signed on back in May.
Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – the fourth movie in the action series – has grossed almost $700 million (£450 million) worldwide since opening in December 2011.
