Alan Grayson compares the Tea Party to the KKK, Freedomworks demands apology

Florida representative Alan Grayson (D-FL) sent a fundraising email out Monday with a loathsome message and picture that has drawn the ire of many.

The title of the email–“The Tea Party: No more popular than the Klan”, featured a large image of the flaming cross, with the letters “ea Party” etched in to the right of it. The caption read: “Now You Know What the ‘T’ Stands For.”

The text of the email features the transcript of an interview with Rev. Al Sharpton.

Republicans and Tea Party organizations came out quickly condemning Grayson’s email rhetoric and pic.

“There’s no excuse for the hateful words and imagery used by Congressman Grayson,” said Matt Gorman, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “This hate-filled rhetoric has Americans fed up with Washington.”

He called on House Democrats to “swiftly and strongly condemn him and return the money he has raised for them.”

The grassroots conservative and libertarian organization, FreedomWorks is demanding an apology from the progressive legislator.

In a petition by the organization, they say, “Florida Democrat and arch-progressive Alan Grayson compared the Tea Party to the Klu Klux Klan.

“He even used a picture of a burning cross as the “T” in Tea Party in an email fundraiser. This is outrageous. He must apologize!

“Grayson is mad that Tea Partiers fought hard to dismantle ObamaCare – a law a majority of Americans oppose.

“Obama’s health care takeover has been a job destroyer and a disaster for millions of Americans. The website is a mess and the government call centers are no better. Worst of all, hard-working Americans are being kicked off their health insurance plans – despite Obama’s promise that they could keep their coverage.

“Progressives can’t win on the issues. That’s why Alan Grayson attacked you with such disgusting rhetoric. That’s why Grayson compared you to the KKK. Grayson is too scared to defend the ObamaCare disaster, so he’s atacking regular, hard-working Americans. He needs to apologize for his disgusting and loathsome e-mail.”

Former Florida Republican Congressman Allen West expressed his disgust on the microblogging site, Twitter today:

The one thing I DO see wrong with the whole statement.. is with the graphic..

He uses a LOWER case t and an UPPER case P… It just doesn’t work well.

  2. ofcourse says:

the tea party and right wing are worse than the KKK. At least the KKK didn’t try to destroy america like the gop is trying to do.

  3. Trishalynn says:

Surprised the KKK didn’t come out demanding an apology.
