‘Aladdin’ wrapped filming, artwork teased, now how long until fans see footage, Will Smith’s Genie
Mena Massoud (The 99, Jack Ryan), star of Disney’s upcoming live-action Aladdin film, has tweeted that production has wrapped. Check out the image below.
The movie will head into post-production for now and will more than likely go through some re-shoots before its May 2019 release date.
The news comes after it was reported that Selena Gomez and Zayn Malik are working on a song for the movie, which would be pretty huge for the soundtrack alone. Malik previously worked on a smash hit single with Taylor Swift and an Aladdin single with Selena Gomez is almost guaranteed to be a hit before anyone even hears it.
The film is based on the 1992 animated classic. Massoud also threw in a short caption that reads, “That’s a wrap on Aladdin! It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for you to see it summer 2019!”
Massoud hold the first look at artwork of the film, where the Cave of Wonders is visible and the swooping magic carpet ride. Check out the closer look below.
The new project, directed by Guy Ritchie (The Man from UNCLE, Sherlock Holmes) has already battled the politically correct road to cast the leads: Will Smith, who plays the Genie, British-Indian actress Naomi Scott as Jasmine and the controversial “painting of extras” to “brown” them.
The film also includes Into the Woods star Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan and Nasim Pedrad as Dalia.
While promoting his role in 12 Strong, Navid praised the cast, director Ritchie and Will Smith’s energy on set “He did add that there were moments of ad lib from the Men in Black superstar, but script was held to ‘faithfully’ and was like the animated film.”
Aladdin is set for theaters on May 24, 2019.
