Alabama: Sunshine Pauly killed by her child’s therapist, Jonathan Coffman, who then killed himself
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama has released the names of those involved in the murder/suicide which occurred Friday morning: Sunshine Price Pauly, shot and killed by Jonathan Neil Coffman.
“It is unclear what lead to the events of today but our investigators are working intensely to understand that,” Lt. Donny Shaw said, confirming that they did all know each other.
The Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning when Pauly at 105 Rustic Cedar Lane called dispatch and said there was a man at her home with a gun.
Coffman, 43, is a therapist at the Arc of Madison County and police say he shot and killed Pauly, 36, before turning the gun on himself.
“This is clearly a murder-suicide,” Shaw said.
Pauly has a 7-year-old son who was unharmed in the incident. Shaw says family members are taking care of the child.
There are conflicting reports stating that the son was being treated by Coffman.
“The Arc is deeply saddened to hear of these tragic events,” the statement says. “Mr. Coffman was employed by The Arc. To be clear, however, The Arc was not providing any services to the victim’s family. We want to provide space for the authorities to investigate this matter and for the families to grieve.”
Investigators say they are still working to determine a motive for the murder-suicide.
