Alabama: Krystal Hancock identified as woman killed in attempted murder suicide, shot by Ben Allen
A woman in Baldwin County Alabama was killed Wednesday evening after being involved in an alleged murder-suicide attempt. Authorities have now identified the woman as Krystal Rose Renee Hancock.
Hancock, 29, was found dead by police at a Bay Minette home on Eastwood Drive at approximately 10.45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about the shooting. She was shot in the face.
Eastwood Drive in Bay Minette after 911 received a call that a female had been shot at the location.
Investigators found the shooter, Ben Clifton Allen, 39, injured but alive from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Police confirmed that Allen is the 911 caller, claiming to have “shot his wife.”
“There was no one else in the home when this occurred so the only person that obviously knows anything that happened is the suspect himself,” said Baldwin County Sheriff, Hoss Mack.
Allen was transported to University Hospital in Mobile, receiving treatment for his injuries.
Investigators believe the case is a murder and attempted suicide.
Mack added that the two had a history of domestic disputes.
“We are aware that there had been some domestic issues in the past and even some as recently perhaps within the last few days, but we’re currently still gathering that information,” Mack explained.
“Not all of that occurred in Baldwin County so we’re trying to gather information through some other agencies and other witnesses as well.”
Mack confirmed that a report was made in Mobile County a few days ago where Hancock filed a complaint against Allen after a verbal altercation.
“Once the investigation is completed and we’re able to get some other things narrowed down, at that point in time is when we’ll look at bringing charges against Mr. Allen,” Mack said.
No charges have yet been filed and the investigation is continuing.
Ben Allen has been charged twice before for domestic violence. Crystal Hancock worked as a dispatcher for the Mount Vernon Police Department.
