Alabama: Darlene Rawlins identified as dead body in back of SUV, Christopher Corson charged with ‘gruesome’ murder

The victim found dead inside the back of an SUV in Foley, Alabama has been identified. Darlene Rawlins’ body was found stuffed inside the cargo area of the SUV after officers received a call about blood coming from the rear of the vehicle.

“No one deserves to die like that–so it was a pretty gruesome scene,” Captain Steve Arthur with the Major Crimes Task Force said. Police identified the suspect as Jefferson County native Christopher Corson.

Corson, 36, has been arrested and charged. Police say the pair had been friends and they believe the relationship turned romantic last month.

Investigators are still searching for the location where the murder took place, and continue to try and determine a motive in Rawlins’ death.

A witness that was following a small white SUV heading south bound on Highway 59 from the Foley Beach Express called the Foley PD to report that there was blood coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Investigators say the SUV was full of household items and clothes, and it appeared the couple may have been in the process of moving. The man was “covered in blood” when police arrived and questioned him about the blood coming out of the SUV.

Corson has an extensive arrest record, which prompted a $1.5 million bond.

“We know of a 15-year arrest history across seven counties in the state of Alabama. He has at least four prior felony convictions and numerous domestic violence misdemeanor convictions as well,” Chief Asst. District Attorney Teresa Heinz said.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and the BCSO plans to release additional information will be released as it becomes available.
