AG Pastor David Alijani released from Iranian prison

A pastor at the Assemblies of God Church of Ahwaz, imprisoned for his faith in Iran has been released.

David AlijaniAccording to a story by Mohabat News, David Alijani (also known as Davoud), was released from Karoon Prison on Jan. 13, after spending 257 days in detainment.

Alijani’s release comes just three weeks before his sentence would be completed.

Iranian officials raided a Christmas event in 2011 which resulted in the arrest of Alijani and a number of other members of the Ahwaz Assemblies of God church.

Those arrested were threatened, interrogated, and had their personal information and addresses recorded. Most were released after a few hours, but the four detained were charged with converting from Islam to Christianity (apostasy), proselytizing Muslims, and working against the Islamic regime through evangelism.

Based on these accusations, the Revolutionary Court of Ahwaz sentenced the four to one year in prison.

In December Pastor Farhad Sabok-Rouh was freed from the Karoon – more details on that story HERE
