Africa: Islamic State terrorists attack leaves over 12 dead despite citizens battling ebola outbreak

(International Christian Concern) –On September 22, 2018, militants from the Allied Defense Forces(ADF), a terrorist organization based out of Uganda, attacked Beni, a small town in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC). This group is known to be an Islamic extremist organization that was founded in the early 2000s in hopes of building an Islamic State in East Africa. The attack took place over a several hour period on that Saturday, and ended in the deaths of more than a dozen people.

Beni is located in the Kivu region of Eastern DRC, and is known to have as many as 45 rebel and terrorist group active there. This has made it a very dangerous area of the country that has seen several hundred killed this year. Many of these groups also have ties to Islamic extremism, but are not necessarily working together for a common goal.

Beni is not only dangerous from these extremist groups however. The most dangerous part to this attack may have been that Beni is still an active Ebola outbreak area. More than 100 people have been killed during this current outbreak. The attack disrupted all attempts to contain this deadly disease and very well may have ensured that it will take many more lives before being stopped. It is still unclear if the attack in the town was conducted to continue the Ebola outbreak, or just to cause chaos, but what is sure is that this will end in many more deaths than just those killed that night.
