Abortion supporters chant ‘Hail Satan’ at Texas capitol, Church of Satan insulted

Abortion activists opposing the 20-week abortion ban bill in Texas have drawn national attention for chanting “Hail Satan” while pro-life advocates sang Amazing Grace.

More than 3,5000 people came to the Capitol to register their position to the bill and more than 2,000 signed up to testify on Tuesday, but the House State Affairs Committee approved the measure 8-3 after hearing from fewer than 100 people.

Texas blogger Adam Cahm captured video of the scene: Pro-abortion supporters chanting “Hail Satan” and one yelling “Mary should have had an abortion” – obviously alluding to Jesus’ birth.

The video was so popular that “Hail Satan” was trending on twitter.

Texas Governor Rick Perry called a special session to complete the bill which was not finalized until after midnight. The Texas House committee voted to move forward with House Bill 2 – an identical version of the abortion legislation that was stalled last week by a filibuster. The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and shut down 37 of the state’s 42 clinics.

 Twitchy reported:

Nothing much happened, but there was plenty of interest, as abortion advocates in orange shirts lined up to protest proposed limits on abortion after 20 weeks and stricter safety standards for abortion clinics.

It would be difficult to argue that the pro-abortion crowd wasn’t an “unruly mob” — last week protesters shut down proceedings by screaming from the gallery and used social media to debate the legal consequences of rushing the floor. One protester was reportedly arrested after punching a state trooper who was clearing the gallery.

The tweet comes from the so-called “UK Church of Satan,” which describes itself as “A community of free thinking individuals and realists. Connecting followers of the Church of Satan in the UK.”
