Abdolfattah Soltani sent back to Evin Prison following ‘furlough’ after mother passes away

On June 7, 2016, Abdolfattah Soltani, lawyer and political prisoner in ward 350 of Evin prison returned to prison by the end of his furlough, says HRANA in a new June 14 update.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Abdolfattah Soltani, the imprisoned lawyer who had been sent to furlough on May 17 after his mother’s death, returned to Evin prison to serve his sentence by the end of the furlough.

Abdolfattah Soltani, founding member of the Human Rights Defenders was arrested on September 10, 2011 and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment and 20 years being banned from practicing law due to receiving a human rights award in Nuremberg, Germany, interviews with the media about the status of his clients and participating in the establishment of “Human Rights Defenders”. His sentence was reduced to 13 years on the appeal court.

Abdolfattah Soltani’s sentence was reduced to 10 years in prison and 2 years being banned from practicing law by applying Article 134.

Soltani’s daughter has spoken out several times regarding the treatment of her tortured father, being denied medical care and his overall physical state. Here’s a her recent remarks:

“…my father suffered chest pains and his cellmates took him to the infirmary and then he was brought back to the ward. My father has become very thin. His body has melted away. His frequent visits to the prison clinic are not a good sign,” said Maedeh Soltani. “These incidents show he’s very sick and he needs immediate treatment. I hope he will be transferred to the hospital before it’s too late.”
