‘A Beautiful Mind’ writer hired for ‘Insurgent,’ the ‘Divergent’ sequel

While the film is still in need of a director as Divergent director Neil Burger has dropped out, Insurgent now has a writer to finish up the script was the film is set to film this Spring.

THR reports that Akiva Goldsman will do some script work on Insurgent, the second film in the trilogy based on the popular Veronica Roth novels.

The first draft of the film was written by Brian Duffield (Jane Got a Gun).

Goldsman has a long resume of great films including A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. His feature directional debut comes next month with Winter’s Tale, an adaptation of a novel by Mark Helprin. Goldsman has directed a few episodes of Fringe and one episode of Kings.

Divergent stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Tony Goldwyn, Ashley Judd, and Kate Winslet.

Winter’s Tale arrives on Valentine’s Day with Divergent a month later on March 21, 2014.

Insurgent comes to theaters March 20, 2015.
