The moment you start thinking about buying a car, it starts giving you anxiety attacks. It is definitely a tough decision to make but let me tell you that you are not alone in this. Whether you want to buy a used car or a new one, it is such an overwhelming feeling that you end up questioning everything. There is not only one reason of this fear, ask people and you will get different answers about why they are afraid of buying a car. Some are not sure whether they made proper research or not while others don’t want to deal with the salesman.

However, you can’t keep your vehicle maintained for ages and someday you will have to buy another car or if you have never bought a car before, this is the right time to overcome your fear and get a car for yourself so you can have a perfect road trip with your pals and go wherever you want without any restrictions. I have compiled a list comprising of important car buying steps, this will help you eliminate fear and buy the best vehicle for yourself.

Do Your Homework

Before going to a car lot, make sure that you do proper research about the car you want to buy. If you are unaware of the car details, you will only waste your time at a car lot. Try the term “Google” and find out anything and everything about a car. From consumer reports to auto trader to price range, every detail is available on the internet.

If you are planning to buy a used car, make a research about resale prices so you can be good at bargaining with the salesman.

Don’t Be Emotional

Buying a car is something we all get emotional about but this is what you should avoid. Don’t do impulse buying and buy it without any research. Instead, get to know about the model, make, insurance, financing, and style of the car. Some cars are so beautiful that you end up buying them without any second thought but you soon regret it because the car doesn’t meet your expectations. So, be smart and avoid impulse buying.

Always Go for the Test Drive

This is also an important factor when it comes to car buying. People usually prefer to test drive the car so they can get to know whether it is what they are looking for or not. Your first priority should be comfort, there are some cars that don’t feel comfortable while driving. Also, if you have children, take them with you to the test drive as it is important to know whether they are comfortable with it or not. Additionally, check out the following for buying a comfort car:

  •    View – Make sure the view from both mirrors and dashboard is clear.
  •    Idle – Is the car quiet and smooth to drive?
  •    Handling and Brakes – When you push the brakes, notice whether the car responds or not. Of course, you want to choose a car that suits your preference the best.
  •    Controls – From windshield wipers to certain switches and buttons, make sure that the car is in full control.

Say No to Monthly Payment

Car dealers offer attractive monthly payment deals that you can’t stop yourself from saying YES. But, if the monthly payment includes a 72-month loan then it’s not attractive, it’s hectic.

Make sure to always check the purchase price of the car, not the monthly payment. Also, be aware of taxes, delivery fees, car preparation, and dealership costs so the full price of a car doesn’t surprise you at the end of the day. Car dealers won’t tell you until you ask so be sure to question.

Don’t Buy the Add-ons

Buying a car is expensive, especially when you buy a new car. Car dealers are notorious for offering excellent add-ons that you want to buy them. Before purchasing any add-ons, check out your pocket whether you can afford it or not. Also, ask yourself whether you need GPS system and heated seats or not. In fact, you can find GPS system, a rear camera, and other car accessories at a much cheaper price online or from a shop in your area.

Involve Your Mechanic

We all have a mechanic we can count on when buying a used car. Ask the mechanic to thoroughly check the car before you make payment. Of course, they are expert in this and immediately get to know every wear and tear. His inspection can help you make the decision whether you should buy the car or not. Also, it may help you buy a car at a lower price.

The bottom line is car buying is a big purchase. These tips will help you find a comfortable car (both new and used) at the best price possible.
