5 Reasons Why You Need Waterproof Flooring

Waterproof flooring has several benefits or advantages. It’s not just about the vanity of having water-resistant flooring. Waterproofing is not exactly something you can brag about to your friends when they visit your home.

The following are the most sensible reasons that might convince you to shell out extra cash to make your floor waterproof.

Sanitation

If you have toddlers who are spending most of their time on the floor, it is advisable to have waterproof flooring. This is to make sure that the surfaces on which little children are walking, crawling or lying down are kept sanitary or at the very least, less prone to the infestation of disease-causing microorganisms. Moisture allows germs or pathogenic microbes to thrive. By taking away water from your floor’s surface, you can significantly reduce the number of pathogens that inhabit the floor.

Ease of cleaning and maintenance

Waterproof floors are generally smoother than non-waterproof ones. They are expected to be free from cracks and crevices that make it easy for dirt to stick and accumulate. As such, they are easier to clean and maintain. It is considerably faster to wash and wipe away the unwanted particles on a waterproof floor. Likewise, it is relatively easy to keep water-resistant floors odor-free.

Spilling drinks or condiments onto the floor is one of the most common challenges in keeping floors clean. If you have floors that prevent water from seeping in, you can wipe and dry away the spillage quicker. It is difficult for any odor to stay on a floor that keeps liquids on the surface.

Preventing mold and mildew

There are parts of a house or building that are prone to moisture build-up. Basements, in particular, tend to get wet not only because of water leaking from external sources or from air conditioning tubes, but also because of moisture. Basements are naturally colder than the upper parts of a building, hence evaporated water accumulates in it. As damp air condenses, it results in wetness on the floor as well as on the walls.

Waterproofing does not prevent moisture build-up and dampening. However, it makes it easy to clean the area and prevent the growth of mold and mildew. It lowers the cost of cleaning and maintaining basements and other areas that are prone to moisture.

It’s a no-brainer to have bathrooms, laundry areas, as well as mudrooms waterproofed since they are regularly exposed to water. There are many houses, though, that don’t have water-resistant floors in these areas. It’s possible to have bathrooms with ceramic tile or other durable flooring that is not coated with waterproofing. It does not considerably affect the durability of the floors. However, it’s arguably better to have waterproof flooring in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, or mudroom.

As mentioned, preventing water from seeping into floors makes cleaning and maintenance significantly easier. In summary, waterproofing is advisable mainly because of the advantages it brings when it comes to cleaning, sanitation, and the prevention of unwanted microorganism proliferation.
