5 Practical Curb Appeal Additions To Your Home
There’s something to be said when it comes to the curb appeal of your home from an outsider’s perspective (for instance when you’re going to sell your home), but there are also a few things that you can do that improve both that view and your own practical appreciation of your house.
Five examples of this include adding window screens, doing some basic landscaping, updating your window frames and shutters, putting a new, clean coat of paint on your house, and using seasonal decorations around all of the holidays. So whether you’re selling your home or not, all of these things add to the overall value of your basic living condition.
Windows Screens
You may not notice your windows after a while once you’ve been living in a place, but if you step back and think about it, you’ll note that adding window screens to the mix not only increases curb appeal, it also improves several practical aspects of your home, including things like temperature control, security and privacy, and even weatherizing. Buying high-quality or even custom window screens can make a huge and immediate difference in daily activities around your homestead.
Basic Landscaping
Every home needs basic landscaping. Again, this is one of those things that, once you become familiar with how dull your yard is, you don’t really recognize it anymore. But from the street, people will judge you for your plainness or lack of attention to detail. Also, the whole family can enjoy basic landscaping as a seasonal activity or bonding experience. So really, it’s a win-win all around! Talk to your family about what projects they’d be most interested in, and see where to go from there.
Window Frames
Even if you’ve got great windows at your home, the effect isn’t going to be complete until you add the right window frames. This can be the area all around your windows, and can include things like shutters, or even outside potted plants. Some people use flowers to great effect around their windows, and it looks amazing from the outside.
A Clean Coat of Paint
Go ahead – paint your house! Find a color you love, figure out the right type of paint to use, get the right materials (in terms of brushes, ladders, etc.), and enjoy improving your home! This is one of the single easiest ways to improve the curb appeal of your house, and it’s a great way for you to interact with your living environment as well.
Seasonal Decorations
Every time there’s a holiday, decorate. It doesn’t have to be anything huge, but your family, your neighbors, and people interested in buying your house if it’s on sale will all notice the occasional dressing that you put into it. Lights can make a huge difference in sprucing up casual appearance, and are inexpensive as well!
