While enjoying the sun and sand at the beach is always great, sometimes you battle with the crowds and have trouble finding the ideal spot to relax. Why not try an alternative vacation this year? Learn yoga and healthy living at a wellness retreat in Asia, bungee jump off a bridge in South Africa, learn the way of the Ninja in Japan or experience the wonders of the Northern Lights.

  1. Ayurveda, yoga and meditation retreats in India

Ayurveda is a traditional Hindu practice of medicine throughout the country. The system balances both the body and the mind with herbal treatments, a dosha diet and yogic breathing. India is where yoga began and there are many luxurious health retreats on offer where you can learn all about yoga, meditation and organic gardening. Take home all your new knowledge and continue these healthy practices. There are several Tours to India, particularly the  Golden Triangle Tour India, so keep those in mind.

  1. Adventure sport in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa

Take a tour down the Garden Route in the Western Cape of South Africa until you reach the Tsitsikamma National Park. If you have no fears of heights, you can jump off a 216-meter (709-foot) bridge above the Bloukrans River with Bloukrans Bungy, the highest commercially operated bridge bungee jump in the world. Take a Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour through the lush rainforest, traveling from one platform to the next, while suspended from a steel cable 30 meters (98 feet) up.

  1. Learn the art of Ninja in Tokyo or Kyoto, Japan

We have all heard about the Ninja in films and TV series, but you can learn more about this Japanese cultural practice first-hand. Back in feudal times in Japan, a Ninja was a mercenary or covert agent, but many magical abilities have also been linked to them, including the control of natural elements, invisibility and more.  Take a tour in Japan to learn about the history of this ancient culture. You can also watch the popular Sumo Wrestling along the way, explore beautiful temples and learn the art of meditation.

  1. Photograph the Northern Lights in Iceland

Visit Iceland between September and mid-April when you can experience the Northern Lights (or Aurora Borealis) virtually every night. At the edge of the Arctic Circle, full darkness is guaranteed, allowing the best view of the sky filling with that magical light. Wrap up warm and head out close to midnight for the best experience. Experts say you should avoid a night where there is a full moon to interfere with your magical captures and ensure you have a sturdy tripod for your camera.

Let a little adventure into your soul and experience something different on vacation this year!
