‘300 Rise of an Empire’ SDCC panel discuss film, but the new posters steal the show
The 300 sequel has gone through name changes, delays in release and now finally gets some promotional material out to fans with a slew of posters.
The next chapter in the 300 saga focuses on the battle between Persian god-king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his armies, and the forces of Greece, led by Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) and Artemisia (Eva Green).
Each character has their own poster with Lena Headey’s returning Queen Gorgo, and new character Calisto, played by Jack O’Connell.
This time round, the battle takes place at sea, which should provide scope for some epic new action sequences.
“I think that the idea was very much like Zack had Frank Miller in the back of his head when he did 300,” director Noam Murro said, trying to explain the tone of Rise.
“This was very similar in that way in that I had 300 as a point of reference. The idea was always to take the DNA of that movie and being able to look back at it and use it as a reference and build upon it. There is enough 300 DNA in Rise of an Empire, but there is a lot of new stuff in it. That was the goal and the challenge. How do you keep enough of it and still create something very new?”

Based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, Rise sees a ton of new faces and a new man behind the camera.
