3 Less-Known Romantic Honeymoon Destinations in the World
Congratulations! You are finally tying the knot and planning to take that great step together. Now is the time to plan the perfect honeymoon destination to start off your married life in paradise. The following are suggestions for some of the best, less-known honeymoon destinations in this big, wide world.
- Honeymoon in the Balearic Islands of Spain
Mallorca in the Balearic Islands is a great place for a honeymoon and while the city of Palma has many lovely hotels and resorts, why not head to the quieter, smaller traditional towns, either on the coastline or a little inland?
Deià is a beautiful inland town, well known for its connection with art, music and writers. The island nestles in a ravine at the foot of Mt. Teix and enjoys beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea below. The area’s gorgeous landscapes earned World Heritage Site status, while historic sites in the area show that the island was popular in prehistoric times, when people lived in the caves set in the hillsides. The Moorish occupation during the 8th century saw a sophisticated irrigation and drainage system set up in Deià, which is still in use today.
Depending on your finances, a good choice for a honeymoon hotel would be the five-star Belmond La Residencia. Hotel Des Puig is a three-star hotel and also an excellent choice for a romantic stay.

- Newly-wedded bliss in Greece
While many pick Santorini as the perfect destination for a Greek honeymoon (and, of course, it is!) you might want to choose a quieter island, away from the madding touristic crowds. One of these is lovely Lemnos, in the North Aegean Sea. The island has minimal modern development, meaning there are remote and secluded beaches to enjoy.
The capital of the island is Myrina, which lies between two bays – Tourkikos Gialos and Romeikos Gailos. The area surrounding the latter bay has been declared a conservation area, with many beautiful trails to follow. There are many neoclassical buildings along the coastline in the city, some of which have been turned into excellent hotels and restaurants. End your first day together, sipping champagne and watching the sunset over the beach.
A quaint option for your honeymoon hotel is the rustic Archontiko Hotel in the town center, with its pretty rooms offering fireplaces. Another choice is Limnia Gi, a hotel set in the center of the town, steps away from the sandy Romeikos Gialos Beach and surrounded by restaurants.
- Honeymoon in Algarve, Portugal
The Algarve is a popular region in the south of Portugal, with gorgeous beaches set among craggy cliffs. A number of quaint and traditional towns line the coastline, including São Brás de Alportel, where you can stay at a 200-year-old traditional Portuguese quinta, such as Farmhouse of the Palms, with its beautiful gardens, outdoor pool and stunning views.
Armação de Pêra is another lovely choice for a Portuguese honeymoon destination, where you could enjoy newly-wedded bliss at the Vilalara Thalassa Resort, with its beautiful spa. Enjoy breakfast with a view over the sea.
Once again, congratulations on planning to spend the rest of your life together and have a wonderful honeymoon at the destination of your choice!
