Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill bring ‘Man of Steel’ to Comic-con fans
Comic-Con was the first big introduction of the new Superman to excited fans as 6,000 fans packed a room to see the first trailer and hear from director Zack Snyder and star Henry Cavill.
Saturday’s panel showcased Snyder’s vision for the Superman franchise, a complete reboot after the failed 2006 film “Superman Returns”.
“We certainly respect the history, but I kind of felt like Superman needed to be reintroduced to a new generation,” Snyder told the screaming crowd. “He’s always been like this ‘Boy Scout’ on top of a mountain and you can’t really touch him.”
“I just wanted to bring Superman into the modern world,” Henry Cavill added. “Hopefully I bring a version that everyone can relate to.”
It footage screened which included glimpses of a young Clark Kent, playing as Russell Crowe narrates as Jor-El. There is one amazing shot of a young Clark lifting a school bus. The ship, a baby Superman and a quick glance General Zod all fueled the frenzied crowd.
Snyder seemed proud of the reaction explaining that the goal was to make Superman personal for each audience memeber.
“The big challenge, of course, is if you can make people feel, ‘What would you do it you were Superman? How would you feel?'” Snyder said to assembled fans. “How to make it personal, I think that’s the thing we went after.”
Cavill is joined by Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as Zod and Antje Traue as Faora.
Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni and Crowe all round-out the ensemble cast.
“Man of Steel” comes to theaters next summer on June 14, 2013.
