Xiaojie Li, woman in mall, tasered over iPhone shopping debacle

A Massachusetts woman was stunned with a Taser and arrested at a New Hampshire mall earlier this week, the result of an miscommunication with police.

A local family says a language barrier may have resulted in police using a Taser on a woman after she tried to buy too many iPhones at a local mall.

Xiaojie Li, age 44, says she is embarrassed by Monday’s Pheasant Lane Mall in New Hampshire incident.

“So my mom says she don’t know why they called the police, because she doesn’t understand what they are talking about,” her 12-year-old daughter Jiao Jay said.

After being told by store employees that she had bought the limit, Li took video of what she claimed were other customers buying more than two phones, she said through her daughter who served as an interpreter.

The store manager reportedly asked Li to leave, and issued a stay-away order mother.

Jay said her mother bought two iPhones last Friday, and was told that was the limit. When she took video of others she claimed were buying more, the store manager asked her to leave.

“So then the police took my mom’s phone and tried to take my mom’s bag. And my mom tried to ask them why, and they just throw her on the ground,” said Jiao.

After tasering and handcuffing her, she was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest.

Red welts are on her wrists and body to show for it.

“So my mom is really upset about what they did and so it’s a free country and she just took a picture of what she think they did wrong,” said Jiao.

The YouTube video doesn’t show the incident, just Li already on the ground, surrounded by police and the “crackling” of a taser.
