WWE Smackdown Live Results and Review October 2 2018 : Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams

WWE Smackdown Live is from Moda Center in Portland, Oregon and features the highly anticipated One Night in Milwaukee where Aiden English will reveal the video evidence he eluded to last week. Shelton Benjamin called out his lack of competition on Twitter and General Manager Paige listened, putting him in a match against Daniel Bryan tonight.

R-Truth and Carmella vs. Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega

Carmella forces Zelina Vega to tap out to Code of Silence for a Submission victory.

New Day Cooks with Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods

Tye Dillinger vs. Randy Orton

The match never officially started because Tye Dillinger attacked Randy orton on the ramp during his entrance, and the two fought outside the ring. Orton wedged Dillinger’s finger in the turnbuckle and bent and twisted it before officials were able to stop him.

One Night in Milwaukee with Aiden English, Rusev, and Lana

Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin with The Miz on commentary

Shelton Benjamin hits Paydirt and scores the Pinfall victory after The Miz distracts Daniel Bryan. The Miz attacked Bryan after the match.

Asuka with Naomi vs. Peyton Royce with Billie Kay

Asuka wins by Submission.

Becky Lynch In Ring

Botches

  • The angle with Samoa Joe and AJ Styles was deflated tonight. Nothing came from what happened last week and a lame remote video from Styles did not make Joe visiting his house carry any weight.
  • Becky Lynch’s promo was off, and the reactions from the crowd for her and Charlotte are making the feel of this feud strange. I understand wanting to cheer Becky Lynch, but she’s playing a traditional heel role that is supposed to have no redeeming qualities. The cheers don’t make sense. Sometimes the fans just need to play along to make it work.

Bodyslams

  • R-Truth is on fire and his time in the ring with Almas was fantastic. R-Truth with Carmella is a hot act, and I hope they can find longevity together.
  • Randy Orton and Tye Dillinger was brutal without being bloody, and the finger in the turnbuckle gimmick worked in the moment.
  • Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin is a top tier talent and showed it again tonight. Both men looked great and had a chance to show off their talent.

This episode was mostly hype for this weekend’s Super Show-Down and there were multiple angles using video footage, so there was less wrestling then usual. What we saw for in ring action was satisfying, and there is more going on than will be resolved on Saturday. Smackdown was better than RAW again this week in my opinion, but it was light on content. There are so many big shows for WWE to promote right now that they have to save the best matchups for those events. This gives us the opportunity to see some of the spectacular talents Smackdown has like Tye Dillinger, Shelton Benjamin, and R-Truth so it is not necessarily a bad thing. The mid and under-card guys are carrying this show lately, and doing it well. Smackdown should get a third hour so more of the hidden gems on their roster get a chance to shine on television.
