WWE Smackdown Live Results and Review November 20 2018 : Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams

WWE Smackdown Live is from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California this week. Smackdown is coming off of a crushing defeat at Survivor Series, losing every match on the main show. We will hear from Charlotte Flair off of her match with Ronda Rousey where she lost control and was disqualified. Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio will face off tonight.

Show Opener with Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair vs. Billie Kay with Peyton Royce

Charlotte Flair wins by Pinfall after the Natural Selection.

Charlotte Flair vs. Peyton Royce with Billie Kay

Charlotte Flair wins by Disqualification after Billie Kay interferes to save Peyton Royce. Flair regained control at ringside and beat up both women with the help of the announce table and steel steps.

Miz TV

Shane McMahon and The Miz vs. The Bryant Brothers (Wayne and Dane)

Dane Bryant wins by Pinfall with a Small Package on The Miz.

Thanksgiving Feast Fight 6 Man Tag Team Match

The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods) vs. The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) and The Big Show

Big E wins by Pinfall over Sheamus after hitting him in the head with a turkey. The New Day attack Cesaro with the leftovers afterward.

Randy Orton Backstage

Naomi and Asuka vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

Asuka scores the Submission victory against Sonya Deville with the Asuka Lock.

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan In Ring

Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton

Randy Orton wins by Pinfall after the RKO. During the match Orton ripped Mysterio’s mask trying to remove and destroy it. After the match Orton wedged Mysterio’s head in a steel chair and rammed him into the ring post, then removed his mask and held it high.

Botches

  • The Miz and Shane McMahon’s segment with Miz TV and their tag team match was awkward. Shane had eluded to changes coming on Smackdown on social media, but this wasn’t what I had imagined. I expected something that would make the show better.
  • Daniel Bryan’s promo was really long and boring. It was the first opportunity for the fans to get an explanation, but it was slow and I was losing interest.

Bodyslams

  • Charlotte Flair is looking like her father when he was on top of the industry. The Flair heritage is definitely starting to show in the last two shows, and this may be the spark she needs to get back on top and reign as the Quwwn.
  • The New Day and The Bar once again pulled off a holiday gimmick match and made it something especially entertaining.
  • Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton. Orton’s malicious and sadistic desecration of WWE Legends is one of the more compelling stories that has been going on the past few months on Smackdown. The two men are masters of their craft and closed out the show well.

Smackdown once again delivered the better show over RAW this week. The Women’s DIvision is just as strong on Smackdown, but they don’t have to carry the show like they do on RAW. Charloote Flair is poised to take her throne as Queen and carry on her father’s legacy. I’ve really been able to the nuance of Ric Flair in Charlotte in Survivor Series and tinight’s SMackdown, and it’s something special. The swagger, the expressions, the in ring psychology, it’s all starting to come together organically to make her this generation’s Flair. As the women in wrestling continue to put on the better performances, she will be on top as well. Daniel Bryan’s heel turn doesn;t seem to be working just yet, but maybe there’s a plan for where this is going. I expected WWE to lean heavily on Daniel Bryan with the loss of Roman Reigns to be the top babyface. Apparently there’s a different plan in the works, and it may be this new idea that babyfaces and heels don’t exist anymore, and everyone is just a different shade of jerk.
